My Motorcycle Adventure in Sweden
Exploring New Routes and Embracing the Journey
Embarking on a new adventure is always exhilarating, even if it’s a familiar path. As an avid motorcyclist, I strive to explore as many new routes as possible, seeking the thrill of the unknown. While I have taken numerous long motorcycle trips in the past, this particular journey held a sense of novelty as summer transitioned into early autumn. It’s unlikely that I will embark on another trip this summer, but I had meticulously planned a challenging itinerary with a few key stops in mind.
Embracing the Unknown
However, as I have done many times before, I set off without a strict itinerary. I prefer to let the journey and its events guide me, allowing for spontaneous adventures to unfold. So, with my motorcycle fully fueled, I embarked on the first leg of my trip. Along the way, I made a brief coffee stop at a familiar cafe, despite the rainy weather. Surprisingly, the temperature remained warm throughout the early autumn ride. While heavy rain and fog caused a slight drop in temperature, I was well-prepared with the appropriate layers and gear.
Traveling Light
When packing for my journey, I consciously chose to only bring the essential gear. For instance, I opted not to bring camping equipment, as I decided to spend my nights in budget hotels and chalet campsites. While this type of trip can be completed in a short timeframe, such as a week, the high hotel prices in the Nordic countries make camping the most practical option for longer journeys. Camping sites offer affordable tent pitches, along with shower and indoor facilities.
The First Leg of the Journey
The first part of my journey covered approximately 270 km from my home to the Vaasa-Umeå ferry. The ferry ride itself lasted four hours, crossing the sea between Finland and Sweden. Upon arriving at the port, I joined a group of fellow motorcyclists, waiting for our turn to board the ferry. After a brief wait, we were directed to the ferry by a helpful staff member. He showed us where to secure our motorcycles, and we began fastening them to the deck. Since no storms or rough seas were expected, I didn’t secure the bikes excessively. The ferry ride was smooth and enjoyable, allowing us ample time to have a comfortable meal and plan the rest of our journey.
Continuing the Adventure
Once we reached the Umeå port, I decided to continue riding for another 130 km before stopping for the night at a hotel. I rode through the city of Umeå and ventured out towards its outskirts. The road continued through forests and small villages, offering a rather serene and picturesque view. Occasional rain showers accompanied me along the way. Several hours later, I arrived at the quaint Swedish town of Storuman in Swedish Lapland. It was here that I found the peaceful Luspen Hotel, where I spent a restful night.
In Conclusion
My motorcycle adventure in Sweden has been nothing short of remarkable. From embracing the unknown to traveling light, every aspect of this journey has been filled with excitement and discovery. As I continue my exploration of new routes, I look forward to the thrill of the open road and the anticipation of the unexpected.
